I work in a place(rest) that has a phantom table of 4.Generally the 2 kids frolick in the hallway that houses the restrooms. We see them regularly.Today something sinister was on the prowl. My waitress came from the ladies stricken to the core and whimpering for me.It took her 10 minutes to tell me that a man with hollow eyes passed through her in the hall. The chick had to scrape her skivvies! As much as I I would pay to have her speechless, she was struck to he core with fear.
Im considering provoking it and taping.Im better equiped to handle the fallout than most. But should I?

Only provoke a spirit/ghost (they need to make a neutral word for people who are in the afterlife) if you are prepared to send it back into the afterlife. Be extremely cautious if you plan to provoke it. Have a bible/crucifix with you at the time so you have some type of protection.

You said that she was struck to her core with fear... therefore i am going to conclude that this spirit/ghost most likely will give you a negative response if provoked. If you want my honest opinion, provoking a spirit could prove to be bad but also good in some ways.

Do whatever you feel is right

Make sure it is something you are ready to handle. If any doubt in your mind get with a professional to help you out. Just be prepared for anything.
While you may be equipped for the fallout, is the rest of the staff who works there? I am not sure I would do it considered it could put others at risk.
Doing this alone, first off a no no , second why would you want to provoke it, the ghost did nothing wrong she walked through him, he was standing there and most likely has been in the area for a while, how disrepectful to this ghost, most likey she was scared to death, wasn't the ghosts fault. Leave him be your playing with something you clearly do not know what its about.
I would start documenting all activities. Interview your fellow employees. See who else is experiencing anything. Compare notes. From this info you can get a better picture of what you are dealing with if anything. I would not go into attack or provoking mode but totally the opposite.
Rick's given you the best advice, what you choose to do with it is up to you. You mention that you work in the place but give the impression that you own the place, do you? If not, then the decision is out of your hands anyway as I doubt the owners would have the same cavalier attitude towards the situation as you seem to.

I'm not trying to be rude or offensive, it's just difficult to assess a situation without being aware of all the facts. Regards your comment about "something sinister on the prowl", take a moment to consider it. There was only one witness to this apparition at the time (presumably?) and although the waitress appeared scared to you, why assume that the spirit was sinister based on its "alleged" physical appearance?
I have been doing justt that.I have the incident reports less the incident Sunday when it threw a can of oven leaner across the dishroom. And no,noone was struck by he can thankfully.I havent provoked it, though I have been talking to it.No we dont own the building but I have access to permission.Im getting he equipment together for a real investigation.
