International Paranormal Acknowledgment Awards

Hey everyone! I thought I would spark up a conversation of my own and get some opinions. I know that alot of investigators, including most of the ones on TV, tend to use a level of "provoking" that definitely crosses the line of respectfulness at times. Most do this only when not getting the desired results otherwise, but many are simply disrespectful when speaking to an assumed spirit all of the time. I'm not saying that I am right and others are wrong, but I practice respectfulness at all times when attempting to communicate. Even when I believe I am speaking to a demonic or otherwise malevolent entity, I use respect just to be sure about it and to stay safe and keep my team safe. I also teach this approach to others and thus far haven't tolerated disrespectfulness towards anyone...living or not...from any of my investigators. I really haven't ever had a good chance to talk to other professionals in the field about this particular subject and would love to hear some opinions from you all. Again, I do not claim to be better than anyone else and I am very open to the thoughts of others. Please enlighten me. ;)

I agree, I learned a long time ago to talk to them just like they are there. To take this a step further when taking photos ask them if they would like to be in the photo with you. You might be surprised.

Asking about there family and talking about holidays have also showed good responses. If you are dealing with possible children spirits, try singing simple nursery rhymes or children songs of there time- then just stop along the way and see if they are singing along. A lot of times you will get the next three or four words of the song before they notice you have stopped singing.

We at APIU try prevoking as a last resort method of trying to communicate. We take great care in how and where we provoke. We believe that provoking needs to be done in the most respectful manner possible.

I really like your thread I am in a paranormal Investigation group, I don't agree with provoking some do. speaking on personal experience. If a spirit or ghost want to talk belive me they will. I have alot going on in my house to the point I can't turn a recording device on without getting MANY evps. They demand respect because you have to remember these are people just without bodys they have the same feeling as they did when they were in the living...belive it or not they even sleep which i had no idea until dealing with the "ghost box".Belive me my 19 year son found out the hard way about disrespect they didn't harm him but boy did they talk about..what I mean by that calling him stupid and ignorant. But let me tell you by the end of the night he telling them how sorry he was lol someone who use to not belive..anyway to answer you question provoking is over rated to me but thats just me

i'm no professional by no long shot but i think you have the right idea. at one time i had an interest and i did a little evp work. for the most part i never picked up anything but one night i did record a voice and it wasnt very nice. i never really believed in such things before that time but now i do. i would think it would be very unwise to provoke anything you don't understand or anything that could already be angry.
