Mount Carmel 7; The North Side Gang (Al Capone's Cemetery/The Italian bride )

Al Capone often claimed to have visions of his long time north side nemesis Dion O'Banion and others as he languished at his man-made lake alongside of his lavish Miami estate that served as his semi retirement headquarters and at times; a convenient alibi ...He was of course in the late stages of syphilis and thus prone to delusional thinking, but many believe he was often accosted by the vindictive spirits of rivals such as Obanion and others that suffered a similar fate as the result of his… Continue

She Was Saying Goodbye....

The following is a true personal experience:

In 1977, it was confirmed that my great Aunt Lydie was suffering from lung cancer. The prognosis was not good and the doctors stated that she had very little time to live despite the fact that her illness didn't slow her down. After a stint in the hospital, she returned home and continued her normal routine.

Lydie was my mother's aunt, my grandfather's sister and would always open her home and kitchen to the family. The… Continue

The Dallas Mill and Village

The Dallas Mill is a fascinating place with a history that has been almost completely forgotten. The Dallas Mill was a cotton mill that was a center of life for those who worked there. The mill was the epicenter of a little city that centered around it. Employees were provided homes, medical care, churches, library, lodge building, YMCA, concerts, a kindergarten, and schools. The area that surrounded the Dallas Mill was called Dallas Mill… Continue

Plymouth Place Demolition

I took these photos over the course of a month and a half in Feb and March of '08 ...it is the progressive demolition photos of Plymouth Place retirement home...a reputedly haunted location as recounted by employees and confirmed by my own vigilance in chronicling the dismantling of what was considered the Ritz Carlton of nursing homes and the destination of choice for many of the more affluent and in some cases “connected” of the Chicago elite following it’s construction back in… Continue

A Simple Protection Breathing Exercise

  • Take in a slow deep breath through your nose pushing your abdomen OUT as you inhale, the slowly exhale through your nose pressing your abdomen IN as if you are crushing your navel against your spine.
  • Repeat twice in same fashion.
  • Take one slow deep inhalation through your nose in the same fashion of the three prior cleansing breaths, except this time visualize your body filling with a clear bright light or illumination from…

A Prayer for Protection: St. MIchael's Prayer

There are times we may feel backed into a corner perhaps by a presence that we fear or even by our own irrational thoughts in times of stress. A favored prayer for protection and a source of comfort in these and any similar instances is St. Michael's Prayer:

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

and do…

Best Time for Vigil? Day or Night?

A vigil is a term by paranormal researchers investigating an allegedly haunted place to look for anomalous paranormal phenomena. The researchers are broken up into teams of two, three or more investigators and are directed to maintain surveillance in designated areas of a building or location for a specified period of time quietly observing for various phenomena to occur. Breaks are implemented for "comfort stops", consulting one another, tips and info about possible or actual… Continue

The use of spirits & enchanted amulets in investigating

Ourselves & our team of investigators use alternative methods to determine the "haunted" status of locations. We utilize spirits in our own lives along with enchanted amulets to determine whether or not a location is "haunted". Through the years we have developed a rating system that classifies the activity in one of three groups. The groups were developed based on our own research & experience and appear in our Encyclopedia as reference for others who want to investigate with or… Continue

Peabody Estate Update

There is a duality associated with the Peabody Estate (tomb) legend,

and most that grew up in the Chicago land area are at least vaguely cognizant of it as some of the lore is apparently founded by fact while much is the result of fabrication and the added embellishments of countless retelling the artistic license of childhood narration permits (insert wise crack here) ....

Recent research has nudged the sublimated memory to the surface of a tale an older kid in the neighborhood used… Continue
